STAT Outdoors

Our Story

Built by a hunter, for hunters

STAT Outdoors was founded in 2017 by Brett Strouse, a lifelong bowhunter and freshwater fisherman from Kansas City, Kansas. It started with one question: if you collected enough data, could you actually predict a good day in the field before you ever left the house?

The problem

I've been hunting and fishing since I was five years old. After decades in the field, I knew from experience that certain days just felt different. The barometric pressure was shifting, the temperature was dropping, the wind was right, and the deer were on their feet. But I had no way to prove it, and no way to see it coming.

I wanted to keep a journal of every hunt and every fishing trip, but I didn't want to do it by hand. Scribbling in a notebook after a cold morning in the stand wasn't going to cut it. And even if I did keep notes, there was no way to look back across years of trips and find the patterns buried in the data.

So I started building STAT Outdoors with a simple idea: what if every trip you logged automatically captured the weather conditions (temperature, barometric pressure, wind, moon phase) and what if, over time, a system could learn from your personal data and start telling you when the next good day was coming?

The vision

STAT Outdoors isn't a social media app for outdoorsmen and it isn't a basic notes app with a camo skin. It's an analytical platform built around a single belief: every trip you take generates valuable data, and that data, if captured and analyzed properly, can make you a better, more consistent hunter and angler.

Every log you create generates a weather pattern with 160+ data points. Every Spot you build aggregates your history into location-specific intelligence. Every season feeds a machine learning engine that gets smarter the more you use it. The result is an app that doesn't just record what happened. It helps you see what's coming.

Brett is an avid bowhunter and freshwater fisherman who has spent his life in the outdoors. He founded STAT Outdoors in 2017 after years of wanting a better way to log trips, track conditions, and find the patterns that separate a good day from a great one.

What started as a personal tool for keeping a digital hunting journal evolved into a full analytics platform that auto-captures weather data, scores every outing, and uses machine learning to surface predictions based on real trip history.

Brett designs, develops, and maintains every part of STAT Outdoors: the mobile apps, the web platform, and the ML models that power STAT Vision.
